The Dynamics of Excellence

Image001

The Theory of Excellence (THE) provides an insight into the four dynamics for any individual or organisation to achieve excellence. These must work in harmony and all be present for a perfect performance of any kind.

In the pursuit of excellence, resources need to be devoted to repeat the process delivering small improvements, whilst at the same time analysing all associated information and knowledge to achieve the goal. This repetition must consider, adapt to and exploit environmental factors to maintain sustainability. For excellence to then occur, the process must be ingrained so that it flows naturally utilising the circumstances of the present situation without the need for intense concentration or effort.  Therefore, only by harnessing the four forces of Repetition  Change Analysis – and The Now can excellence be achieved. Let’s review each dynamic in detail.

First, Repetition.  Repetition, coupled with a lot of dedication is a prerequisite of achieving excellence in any task, skill or process as this strengthens the neural connection that supports the cognitive control. However, purely repeating the same task or activity in isolation will not lead to excellence on its own. A theory by Anders Ericsson states that 10,000 hours of practice will lead to excellence. However, this study actually emphasises that this must be deliberate practice, where the task is repeatedly performed and small improvements are made until the desire level of outcome is achieved. These improvements or changes are normally made as a result of measuring the results or analysing feedback to alter the process.  The process is then constantly repeated until attributes such as control, precision, speed, accuracy or dexterity virtually become constants. This requires high levels of dedication and initially needs complete focus upon the task to ensure that it is performed in exactly the same manner every time and achieves the desired output. Then, over time the task, skill or process becomes more natural and can be performed with far less mental effort or attention.

The second force is Change and excellence needs to both harness and accommodate this dynamic. When initially performing the task, skill or process, any feedback or results must be monitored so that change can be applied to improve the operations or steps. Also, as more knowledge or expertise is gained, new techniques or principles can be applied. These new developments can then be tested to understand how they affect the output. This gradual change program is the only way the task, skill or process can be improved until it hits an ‘expert’ level whereupon excellence is achieved. Once this is achieved the adjusted process can then be repeated to reinforce it so excellence becomes consistent. However, for excellence to be sustained the process must also be able to accommodate any external variables that could affect the outcome. If not, any environmental or dependant factor that deviates could have a negative impact and the pursuit of continuous excellence would be disrupted. Also, all the resulting outputs of the process must also be considered and their long term effect on oneself, the group, the organisation and environment. If the results are disruptive or have continuous negative impacts then the resulting outputs will eventually render the original process unsustainable. Change must therefore be incorporated into the development and the on-going process to achieve excellence, and consideration must be given to the effects or harm to the eco-system, the environmental or other human beings to ensure that the process is sustainable.

The third dynamic is Analysis, which must be undertaken during the creation and on-going process of excellence. All viable measurements including environmental factors should be recorded and calculations made to understand the effects incremental changes have on the process. Research and expert knowledge should be sought and incorporated into the analysis with a view to introducing new techniques or variations to the process. Patterns should be identified. Past performances, current outcomes and future possibilities should all be considered including successes, failures or near misses as they are ‘learns’. This analysis should not just include scientific measurements such as time, speed, length, height, etc but also aesthetic or artistic factors such as rhythm, creative appeal or impression. Orthodoxies should be identified and then systematically challenged to improve ability and embrace new ideas. A balance of complexity with simplicity should be achieved as sometimes less is more. Chaos mixed with order, precision intertwined with randomness should all be evaluated and incorporated into the process as and when appropriate, as sometimes emotional sense rather than complex techniques can be seen to provide progress towards the goal. Imitation or mirroring other processes or similar natural occurrences together with analogies should also be used to benefit the output and improve performance. Only by the constant analysis of all the associated information through an analytical approach complemented with natural, random, creative and artistic influences will excellence be achieved.

The forth dynamic of being in 'the Now’ which is just as influential as the other three forces. Once the correct level of performance is achieved through deliberate repetition and continuous improvement, then excellence can only be delivered if all surrounding factors that influence the process are considered at the exact time of execution. These factors cannot be ignored because they can greatly influence the outcome or level or performance. This could be thought of as becoming one with the situation or feeling the environment. This must be achieved without thinking too deeply and achieving a state of mind where the process becomes enjoyable rather than an effort. Where focus becomes a mixture of relaxation and attention. Too much or not enough of either of these has a major influence on the outcome. If anxiety, stress or worry are present through too much focus on the results or remembering previous failures then the process may not flow naturally. If the correct frame of mind is not adopted which delivers the correct level of energy and attention, then excellence will also not be achieved. ‘Being in the Now’ has to deliver a combination of control, focus, determination, along with a naturally flowing process of mind and body that seems relaxed and effortless benefiting from the exact variables of the current situation.

There four forces of Repetition – Change – Analysis – and The Now need to work in total harmony for the individual, the group, or organisation to achieve excellence. If anyone dimension is missing, ignored or too strong, then excellence will neither be achieved nor sustained for any period of time. For more insights into achieving excellence visit http://www.theoryofexcellence.org or contact info@theoryofexcellence.org for more information on the Theory of Excellence courses or keynote speeches.

New range of THE Services Launched

Image001

The Theory of Excellence (THE) has launched a new range of services for financial services, manufacturing, logistics and IT companies.

A new range of services for financial services, manufacturing, logistics or IT companies has been launched using the Theory of Excellence. They cover keynote speeches or presentations at company events, consulting, workshops plus partnering with IT companies to improve their sales and installation process.

Theory of Excellence (THE) core principles are extremely easy to understand because they are based upon the way the human brain works, naturally. As a result they can be used to improve and enhance any management discipline or activity. Once THE theories are understood and embraced they can be immediately applied within areas such as projects, sales, change management, personality or role profiling, man-management, team building, and improving process control or efficiency. The neuroscience aspects of the theories also make the content extremely relevant and thought-provoking for all types and levels of audiences and as such they have a massive impact on each individual's philosophy helping them achieve dramatic improvements in performance, productivity, and ultimately, company profitability.

Therefore, THE is ideal for the foundation of any management training program, business consultancy assignment, organisation improvement process, or as the topic of a keynote speech at a conference or corporate event.  Many, many organisations are utilising THE therefore availability in-line with a current program or project timeline cannot be guaranteed, however every effort will be made to ensure the required services are offered at the appropriate time.

If you are considering using THE to improve your organisation, please email info@theoryofexcellence.org to discuss your specific company’s requirement or alternatively call +66 8170 11 315 for pricing and availability. More information on THE can be found at http://www.theoryofexcellence.org.

How to Attain Excellence with THE

Image001

An introduction of how the Theory of Human Excellence (THE), which provides the foundation for achieving excellence at both the individual and collective level.

Many people have different ideas on excellence. Likewise, organisations have varied views of success. Companies may target market share, return on investment, earnings growth, profit or shareholder value. There is however a growing culture within business of having a valid purpose that delivers a quality service whilst having a positive effect on the environment. Whatever type of excellence is pursued, the results are dependent upon the way the employees function, whether as individuals or within a team and this is totally dependent on the human brain.

Neuroscience has learnt more about cognition in the last 5 years than in the previous 5,000. It has revealed key aspects to the way humans learn, develop new skills, make decisions and ultimately reward themselves for what is deemed as excellence. These new discoveries are revolutionary and have a dramatic impact on performance in all areas. Many of these new findings have been applied within the core principles and philosophy of the Theory of Human Excellence (THE).

Boosting cognitive performance provides the foundation for achieving excellence at both the collective and individual level. This is achieved by applying THE’s taxonomy of excellence, which has four tiers. The first tier is Natural Excellence which is based upon applying a helix of innovation. This is the highest level of adaptation which can be applied to all aspects of growth and development including business. It encompasses the principles and framework to develop a strategy to achieve purpose and deliver the vision.

Human Excellence is the second tier that uses a cognitive framework that defines the dynamics of human thought, plus all the parameters or influences that affect the brain’s performance. This framework facilitates skills such as accelerated learning and ensuring that the correct state of mind is used to deliver the required performance and achieve excellence. The framework ensures that the critical components are adopted to deliver  exceptional performance or become the best that can possibly be achieved in any chosen pursuit.

The next level is the Behaviour Map that categories types of cognitive thought and delivers a map for recognising the appropriate decision making process. Incorporated within this tier is a Code of Collaboration that provides the key principles and guidance for positive human interaction and promoting strong team-work and collaboration.

The last tier within THE taxonomy is Process Optimisation that provides a set of attributes that are used to describe and measure a process. This profile can be used to define the ‘as is’ situation together with the desired ‘to be’ improvement. Actions can then be devised to steer the change process to deploy the improvements taking into consideration the effect on the employees involved.

The Theory of Excellence taxonomy ensures that all the necessary elements to achieve organisational, team, individual, or process excellence are identified, understood and deployed. From the very top level of purpose down to the very detailed level of the attributes and characteristics of a particular task are incorporated providing a complete set of principles. Applying THE principles within each tier ensures that the natural aspects and strengths of humans are capitalised upon so that improvement programs can be undertaken and excellence is achieved.

The Theory of Human Excellence (THE) is a revolutionary new way of looking at behaviour. It is founded upon the very latest neuro research covering how the brain learns, grows and formulates decisions. For more info go to http://www.theoryofexcellence.org or email info@theoryofexcellence.org

Differentiated with Theory of Excellence(THE)

Image001

Use the Theory of Excellence(THE) to differentiate a standard ERP solution to boost new account wins and resulting sales revenues.

It is becoming ever more difficult to differentiate a sales proposition within the IT environment. Many software products are now much more mature with virtually identical functionality and features. There are many more vendors selling exactly the same products such as SAP, Oracle, and Microsoft, consequently certain sectors are becoming more similar to ‘commodities type’ sales meaning it is much more difficult to win new customers. If your organisation is struggling to maintain its sales success rate, adopting the Theory of Human Excellence(THE) will provide the solution.

THE provides the answer to this dilemma by distinguishing both the sales and project proposition. By adopting THE, vendors can complement and improve their sales messages by proposing a new and innovative approach that includes the latest neuro-scientific developments. This allows change management or a business improvement program to be proposed as an integrated element alongside the core IT product. Also, the sales team will have a unique message and sales methodology compared with the competition and their sales strategy and behaviour will set them apart. The team will also use new and advance sales techniques as a result of using THE, which will drive an increase in sales performance by winning more new account customers.

THE also helps vendors to differentiate themselves in the project management area by providing additional elements with regards the human aspects of the project, plus using THE to focus upon delivering the business objectives that gave rise to the investment. THE helps tasks to be assigned to correct individuals and if employees are designated to perform tasks and if there is a mis-match with their working style then it is identified and extra control or care can be taken. Project teams can be formed with the correct balance of skills and attitudes ensuring that a correct mix is formulated of different types to achieve the relevant goal. As team members also recognise their colleague’s style, strengths and weaknesses interaction is greatly improved. THE therefore provides a Code of Collaboration to create a strong project team, leading to optimal performance

THE therefore ensures that the project does not focus just upon the technical issues but also ensures that the individuals affected by the change are managed alongside the standard control and governance elements.

By introducing THE across the organisation, sales will become more successful increasing new business wins. More projects will be completed that deliver their business benefits cultivating improved customers satisfaction. This will result in an increase in revenue, employee satisfaction and sustainable growth.

The Theory of Human Excellence (THE) is a revolutionary new way of looking at behaviour. It is founded upon the very latest neuro research covering how the brain learns, grows and formulates decisions. Theory of Human Excellence Sales Master Class

Image001

As part of the on-going introduction of the Theory of Human Excellence (THE), Terry Wilcox the founder of the theory gave a Sales Master Class Workshop for IT Executives in Bangkok, Thailand during December 2010. The participant extoled this new and revolutionary theory on how to deliver excellence, plus commended how it greatly extended their sales expertise. The course was especially tailored for ERP senior sales executives. Several Sales Directors and Business Unit Directors attended the session.

The Theory of Human Excellence (THE) is a revolutionary new way of analysing behaviour, decisions and the how humans collaborate. The THE theories can be applied to many disciplines including IT Sales and are especially appropriate for selling large value contracts through an extended sales cycle. THE is based upon the very latest neuro research covering how the brain develops, learns and formulates decisions making it extremely natural and very, very simple to adopt within the sales process. It helps Sales Executives boost performance by helping them in areas such as profiling their prospects, presenting clear and understandable sales propositions and driving the energy of the sale to facilitate the Close. THE also assists on an operational front by helping the Sales team understand all aspects required for business excellence including effort, reward and regulation. The workshop was extremely interactive specifically focusing upon the demonstration and close stages of the sales process, although many other areas were also covered.

Nuttama Keoboonrueng, Sales Director of Triforce Global Solutions, which is a Sun and Syspro Manufacturing distributor  in Japan, Singapore, Thailand and China, who attended the workshop stated ‘THE provides a whole new way to approach strategic sales and will also be very useful to profile my prospects’. The Business Manager of Strategic Business Group, Somjit Wonglersak when asked if she would recommend THE to other IT vendors replied ‘THE is too good to share with competitors’. She also stated on her feedback form that the content was 100% original and using neuroscience within the sales process was completely new, plus that she would change her company’s sales process to incorporate the new Theory of Human Excellence techniques. The Strategic Group sell Microsoft Dynamics and POS systems in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.

Theory of Human Excellence (THE) changes the landscape of Sales, Marketing, Personality Profiling, Change Management, Learning, Team Building, Project Management and general management. It is natural, easy to adopt and has tremendous versatility, which can strengthen a company’s whole approach to business. The Sales Workshop mentioned above is just one of the programs on offer incorporating THE theories. THE to Organise 2011 Treasure Hunt

Image001

Theory of Excellence(THE) will be organising the second car based rally style treasure hunt to raise funds for Charity. Participants will drive round the Pattaya area visiting different venues on a secret route donating to local charities or performing fun activities.

A car rally type treasure hunt will be organised by the Theory of Human Excellence (THE) on the 30th January 2011. All money raised will fund the shipment of special education equipment from England for the Sunganseuhsa Piset Ket 12 day-care centre for autistic children based in Sattahip, just outside Pattaya. Competing cars will drive to several different venues (pit stops) in the Pattaya area.  Contestants will have to complete an activity at each "pit stop" in a similar style to the Amazing Race TV show with the theme of giving & nature. They will then receive directions for the next stage of the rally. A fantastic buffet will be provided at the end for all participants and prizes will be awarded to the winning contestants.  There will also be a lucky draw, auctions and family entertainment.

This is the second year the event has been staged and again the theme is “Giving Naturally”. The last year participants visited the Pattaya Orphanage to give food; the Farther Ray foundation farm to donate a tree; and the Redemptionist Vocational School for the disabled to provide new tools. Several other venues such as Horse Shoe Point and Pan Pan were visited. All families enjoyed an action packed day participating in natural and fun activities whilst also getting their own chance to “give”.  The event finished at the Centara where a great buffet was provided for all.

This year participants will once again have to collect treasure on their journey up to the value of about 500 baht to be given away to needy causes. Each car will be charged an entry fee of 1,000 Baht irrespective of the number of passengers. This will make the total cost for the day about 1,500 baht per car for all participants. It is hoped that the complete costs of staging the event will be covered by sponsoring companies and local organisations, including prizes and the costs for the BBQ.

Sponsors confirmed to date: Theory of Excellence, First Step Construction, Horse Shoe Point, MAS, Pan Pan, Windsor, Isuzu, and Centara

Five Fs

Is your company in reverse?

Many companies are ignoring the latest evolutional human driver and are actually promoting an attitude used to exist in the stone-age. They are promoting an environment where thought is given to only the individual, the needs of the one rather than the many moving us back to thinking like a Neanderthal. The Theory of Excellence (THE) founder shares his thoughts on this subject.

I was taking my dogs for their early morning walk today and was inspired by one of my next door neighbours. He was driving round our little village giving out Thai sweets made from rice.  He stopped next to me on his bike and handed me six carefully folded banana leaves. I asked if he wanted money in my best Thai and he smiled and said no thanks. Then he proceeded down one of the driveways of another neighbour to deliver to them. For some reason this made me think of the western world, companies and their influence on life!

I started to ponder how in evolutionary biology, people often speak of the four Fs, which are said to be the four basic drivers or states of mind that animals (including humans) are evolutionarily adapted to focus upon: fighting, fleeing, feeding, and reproduction. The last of these is obviously not literally an F word, but is tongue-in-cheek reference to fornication or the other more commonly used 'F word'. However, the Theory of Human Excellence, which focuses upon applying the latest developments in neuroscience within business, states that human evolution, has moved on and now there are five F's. The four F's mentioned above are reinforced by Dopamine and are based on individual success. The last F in this new innovative theory is for Family, which is the very latest part of the human brain's evolution and is Oxytocin based.  This neighbour was driven by his fifth F and receiving an enormous amount of pleasure delivering his gifts. He was looking after his extended family, which was our small village. It made me reflect on how we humans live now, what our future holds, and how companies are actually taking us backwards.

The human race moved from hunter-gathers to farmers. Going from day to day existence of catching what was required to eat to a planned life based on the seasons and supporting each other.  We shifted our time thought horizon from days to years considering what to plant and when, what animals to keep, and looking after each-others children whist other parents worked on other areas of the commune. The village was born and so were professions, work, skills and jobs. It was all based around the family. Being social. Caring for each other rather than just yourself. The extended family was our new way of life, including neighbours and animals. The human brain adapted and started rewarding giving, caring and social interaction. Laughing, cheering,
clapping, team work, empathy, generosity, caring prospered in every areas of our existence. We became socially orientated.

I then reflected on a chap I knew quite well who had totally focussed on the success of his company and ignored his children. This total and utter focus on the four F's cost him his family. I also thought about the current workplace. A sterile environment of nine till five with strictly controlled breaks. Clocking in and out. Sitting in cubicles answering phones. Glass walls to protect the employees from the very people they are interacting with. All the things that evolution has given us to enjoy the last F being sucked out of every factory or office. Then I thought about a recent documentary on the TV of a drinks company that wanted to employ the best. They had a ping pong table and a bar football table in the restaurant that was also used for meetings, and artificial grass on the floor. They focused on a great working environment and paid for their employee's children to attend university. I also thought about Google's free time for their employees to develop whatever they wanted and work with who they wanted. So, there was still hope for the human race with regards to work. Therefore, the question is easy for all CEO's, directors and business leaders - are you evolving or are you going backwards to a world driven by only four F's. Are you benefiting from the fifth - the real driver?

The Theory of Human Excellence (THE) is a revolutionary new way of looking at knowledge and behaviour. It is founded upon the very latest neuro research covering how the brain learns, grows and formulates decisions, making it extremely natural and simple to adopt. THE dramatically increases efficiency and effectiveness, which together develop excellence in the workplace. T,

The guy who focused on the 4 'f's could be reworded to say his total focus on the 4 'f's cost him his family. As it reads you only have one guy you know who focused on 4 f's when the world is full of them. It doesn't add weight to the argument to me, it sort of detracts from it.

Also need help with the following as it doesn't read right.

They focused on a great working environment and paid for their
employee's children through university

Maybe "paid for their employees children to attend university".

Other than that great article.
